I was visiting La Trimouille in March 2025 for two days staying at a BnB. Nothing was open. I learned about the local Panier Sympa and walked to it from the town square. To my delight I was greeted by the French speaking woman who runs it. This store is incredible. Fully stocked with everything you could want. Fresh fruits and produce, refrigerated cases of fish, assorted meats and poultry, assorted fresh cheeses, desserts, house wares, personal items, fresh breads and pastries, all kinds of wines, beers, ciders, and liquor, bottled water sparkling and still, coffees, charcuterie, laundry products even socks and scarves. I bought some excellent paté, goats cheese, sliced ham etc. needless to say, I was blown away. Also bought a toothbrush and paste and floss as i had left my kit in Limoges. Some wine and champagne too. I decided to stay in La Trimouille 12 days so I visited Panier Sympa several times through the rest of March. The woman who is one of the owners remembered me each time and always greeted me pleasantly. Im heading back to the village end of May for a month and will be returning to Panier Sympa.

Hélas, il n'y a que mon "Panier" qui est Sympa. Je trouve les propriétaires plutôt agressifs, désagréables et souvent en confit entre eux. Si seulement il existait une autre épicerie dans le village, la concurrence les obligerait peut-être à plus de courtoisie et à être moins sélectif dans leur volonté d'amabilité avec les clients qui, au passage à caisse, paient la même somme, bien ou mal accueillis.

Alas, only my "Basket" is Nice. I find the owners rather aggressive, unpleasant, and often at odds with each other. If only there were another grocery store in the village, the competition might force them to be more courteous and less selective in their willingness to be friendly with customers who, at the checkout, pay the same amount, whether they are well or poorly received.
